That story about Star Wars filming in Cork's English Market was an April Fool

Foiled again.

THE STORY ABOUT STAR Wars filming in Cork’s English Market has turned out to be a very convincing April Fool.

Vic Barry of film website TheMovieBit.com, one of the first to break the news of Star Wars filming at Brow Head in West Cork (which is actually happening), wrote that crews were set to move in to the market at the end of the month.

Barry reported that the market was supposed to act as an interior for scenes shot in Dubrovnik earlier this year.

It’s highly unlikely though that Luke Skywalker will be buying spiced beef from Tom Durcan though, as sections of the market will go under a transformation before the shoot begins. Sections will be closed off as set decorators and production designers work their magic.

The rumour was picked up across Star Wars fansites, with lots of speculation on what the market will be used for.

However, Barry has just revealed on TheMovieBit podcast that the whole thing was an April Fool’s joke – and he went to great lengths to trick people:

When we put it up on the Facebook page just after 10am on Friday April 1, there were loads of comments saying “Oh it’s an April Fool, it’s an April Fool”. I hid every one of those comments.

Fine. FINE. Shatter our dreams, why don’t you.
